THE Georgia Sports Medicine Programs and Services

At Georgia Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery, our physicians treat athletes in all sports, all ages and skill levels.   We provide optimal sports-related care and treatment that is focused, one-on-one and state-of-the-art.

We offer a variety of programs and services to cater to the needs of each patients.  We utilize physical therapy along with strength and conditioning programs to assist our youth and high school athletes maximize their potential and to keep our weekend athletes playing their best.  We educate our patients on how to treat their current injuries and how to prevent injuries in the future.  We treat most injuries non-surgically but when necessary we use surgery to correct structural deformities and to get our patients back to their high level of performance.

Injury Prevention
Georgia Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery want to keep you in the game. While our treatment of injuries in athletes in Gwinnett County is unparallel, we also focus on the prevention of injuries. Our staff works with athletes and their families to develop an individualized exercise and conditioning program to assist in the prevention of injury.

Injury Care and Management
When an injury does occur, accurate diagnosis is crucial. Using the latest diagnostic techniques and treatment protocols, the sports physician specialists will diagnose the injury and establish a specialized care plan with the athlete designed to return him/her to pre-injury performance as quickly as possible.

Sports Medicine Services
Athletes require expert and specialized care for optimal treatment.  Sports medicine physicians specialize in the treatment of medical conditions athletes face. Approximately 90 percent of all sports injuries are treated non-surgically.  These include:

  • Musculoskeletal issues (sprains; knee, shoulder, or other joint injuries; fractures)

Surgery
A former athlete himself, GSM's Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mark Cullen, MD has been successfully treating athletes and athletic injuries in Gwinnett County since 1997. Just see our office walls for a testimonial of the hundreds of athletes who have received expert care and our testimonial page for the glowing comments from patients, operating room nurses, coaches, trainers and teachers.   Dr. Cullen's practice has been largely built on his reputation and word or mouth from years of trust, expert care and expert caring of Gwinnett County's inured athletes.

Dr. Cullen completed his Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center under the direction of Dr. Frank Noyes in 1997. He is recognized by his colleagues in Atlanta as one of the leading arthroscopic surgeons in the area.  He specializes in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery and has developed a specialized program for the care of youth and high school athletes.

Rehabilitation
Proper early rehabilitation is essential for a swift recovery from injury. We are associated with physical therapists, exercise physiologists, athletic trainers and strength and conditioning specialists collaborate to maximize care for each individual. Patients have access to advanced rehabilitation equipment and the latest in rehabilitation techniques. Our emphasis is on efficient transition from rehabilitation to peak athletic performance.   We pay special attention on educating patients to avoid re-injury.
