Concussions do not always cause loss of consciousness.
Here are some of the signs and symptoms of a concussion:
Coaches or Parents may notice these effects of a concussion:
- A dazed or stunned appearance
- Confusion about the play
- Clumsy movements
- Slow responses to questions
- Personality or behavior changes
- Retrograde amnesia (forgetting events prior to the hit)
- Anterograde amnesia (forgetting events after the hit)
- Loss of consciousness (even temporary)
Athletes may report:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Balance problems
- Double vision
- Sensitivity to light
- Sensitivity to noise
- Difficulty sleeping
- Cognitive changes
- Feeling foggy
