The Concussion Center at Georgia Sports Medicine has expanded its concussion treatment program by offering ImPACT concussion management to local and regional athletes.
|
ImPACT is a user-friendly computer-based testing program specifically designed for the management of sports-related concussion that records an athlete's health history, current symptoms and neuropsychological data. The test takes approximately 25 minutes to complete.
A large number of sports teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Thrashers and Georgia Bulldogs use ImPACT for management of their athletes with concussion. It is the leading concussion program used by over 500 Universities and 3000 High Schools. |
High school athletes should take the baseline test, which evaluates the athlete's reaction time, concentration and memory with a series of questions, prior to head injury. That way, should head injury occur, physicians at The Concussion Center at Georgia Sports Medicine will be able to compare pre-injury and post-injury test results. The test is free for Gwinnett County High School athletes and schools/clubs affiliated with Georgia Sports Medicine. The test costs $10 for other athletes.
Contact your school or a member organization to arrange for baseline testing.

Athletes who have sustained concussions can call physicians The Concussion Center at Georgia Sports Medicine at (770) 814-2223 to schedule an ImPACT post-injury assessment. Physicians at The Concussion Center at Georgia Sports Medicine can use the ImPACT test to compare the post-concussion ImPACT results against pre-injury test results or normative data, which provides objective information to assist in safe return to play. |
| The Sports Medicine ImPACT assessment, scheduled after injury, often is covered by insurance, depending on your policy. Any balance left after insurance payment would be the patient’s responsibility. |
